Born in Minneapolis, Joanie Stearns Brown was full of energy and enthusiasm for life. She says the energy is waning, but the enthusiasm is still strong. After years of accomplishments, Joanie was listed in "Who’s Who of American Women, 1989-1990."
She is the author of four adult nonfiction books (her favorite is "From Our Immigrants With Love"), hundreds of articles, and a column syndicated nationwide. Soon after her first book, "You Can Learn Metric Easily," was published, Joanie was nominated to the U.S. Metric Board by more than 30 congressmen and senators. As a travel writer for eight years, she was invited by foreign and domestic government tourist offices to visit and write about their newly developing tourist areas, to attract tourism to their areas.
Joanie’s literary agency represented 83 authors when she sold it in 1996. She has two married children and six grandchildren, including the two of her husband, Bill Brown, Professor Emeritus in Architecture at Cal Poly.
In 2001, she was president of the 250-member San Luis Obispo RW (CA), and 2002 found her on the NFRW Board of Directors as Public Relations Acting Chair.
In 2002, Joanie was appointed California FRW's first Homeland Security Chair, a position she still holds. She presented a Homeland Security Workshop at the 2003 state GOP convention in Sacramento, and one for CFRW in 2006.
Currently, she is on the boards of Zion Lutheran Church, SLO County Republican Party, CFRW, CFRW Central Division, and San Luis Obispo Country Club.
