Irby is past president of the South Carolina FRW, having served two
terms. She has served in many capacities on the SCFRW board since
1982. Prior to this, she served as president of the Dutch Fork RW.
She helped organize numerous clubs in South Carolina. She
spearheaded the Hall of Governor’s project in the Governor’s mansion
for First Lady Iris Campbell.
Irby has served on the NFRW Board of Directors since 1986, including
two years on the executive board as Member-at-Large. As NFRW
chaplain, she compiled the new “NFRW Prayer Book.”
Irby served as a trustee and vice chairman of the John de la Howe
School for 10 years. She is active in her church and community, and
currently serves on the Governor’s Mansion Foundation Board and as a
legislative aide for four state representatives.
Irby received the SCFRW “Women of the Year Award,” and the Bill
Jackson Award for her outstanding work in the Lexington County
Party. A state house resolution honored her work in the Republican
Party, and the lieutenant governor named her a “True Palmetto
Patriot.” She has attended five Republican National Conventions as a
delegate or alternate and has served in many capacities on the state
GOP convention, including as credentials chairman.
Gov. Carroll Campbell awarded Irby the “Order of the Palmetto” for
her dedication to the citizens of South Carolina, and Gov. George W.
Bush awarded Irby the “Yellow Rose of Texas,” the highest honor
bestowed on a citizen in South Carolina and Texas.
