Jo Mitchell was elected member-at-large by the NFRW Board of
Directors in March 2010. She has been a member of the NFRW
Nominating Committee, Proxy Committee, Women's Health Issues
Committee and Leadership Committee. She served two terms as New
Mexico FRW president and as president of a local club. She also has
held the positions of secretary and regional director of her state
federation and of treasurer of her local club.
Mitchell has been a 20-year volunteer for the Republican Party in
New Mexico. She served as a regional vice chair of the state party
for four terms and as chairman of the Bernalillo County Party for
two terms. She has served on the state party Executive Committee and
Rules Committee and was elected as a delegate to the 2008 national
convention, where she also served as the New Mexico delegate to the
Rules Committee. She has worked on a number of campaigns and most
recently served on the state party Platform Review Committee.
Mitchell was appointed to the Judicial Performance Review Commission
in 2000 and served until October 2009. This commission is required
to review the performance of all metropolitan, district and
appellate court judges and recommend to the electorate whether or
not they should be retained.
A former dietitian and hospital food service director, Mitchell has a master's degree in food service management . She and her husband worked on a number of long distance balloon flights, such as the first transatlantic flight in 1978. She has two sons and three grandchildren.
