Jessie Morton was elected NFRW 1st vice president at the 36th Biennial Convention in Kansas City and took office in January 2012. She is the director of NFRW Region 1, which includes Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.
Previously, Morton served as NFRW 4th vice president.
As chairman of the NFRW Legislative Committee, she
helped launch the NFRW Jessica’s Law and Katie’s Law initiatives,
which played an important role in helping pass related legislation
in states across the country. Morton is an NFRW Regent and also has
served as chair of the NFRW Fundraising Committee and as a member of
the NFRW Headquarter Trustee Committee. She has presented programs
on fundraising, legislation and membership at NFRW regional meetings
and state conventions.
Morton is founder and charter president of Franklin Republican Women
and has served in several other leadership roles within the club.
She served two terms as president of the Louisiana FRW, and also has served the state as vice
president, regional vice president and treasurer, fundraising chair,
membership chair, and as chairman of LFRW Change Louisiana. She also
served as chair of POWER PAC, and helped the LFRW secure a vote on the
executive committee of the Louisiana Republican Party.
Additional political activities include serving as fundraising
co-chair for Gov. Mike Foster and Gov. Bobby Jindal, as parish chair
for Sen. David Vitter, and as a member of the Louisiana Republican
Party State Central Committee. She has been recognized for her
service through the LFRW Outstanding Member Award, the Tribute to
Women, Hurricane Andrew Service Award, and Franklin RW Outstanding Service
Award.
Morton also is active in community and civic organizations,
including Rotary, Chamber, the Historic Lamppost Committee, and the New
Iberia Gumbo Cook-Off. Recently, Morton was presented with a U.S.
flag that was flown during a 2009 combat mission in Afghanistan for
her "outstanding support and sacrifice to our nation and our
brothers and sisters in arms."
She is married to Mike Morton and has two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
