Betty Heitman of Louisiana Heitman led the NFRW to financial independence from the Republican National Committee and initiated the popular Campaign Management Schools, which have since trained thousands of Republicans for leadership roles in campaigns. She also established the NFRW Polling School to train volunteers to conduct political polls for Republican candidates. The NFRW established the biennial Betty Heitman Award for State Excellence in her honor.
