Marion E. Martin of Maine During her tenure as assistant chairman of the Republican National Committee, Martin founded the NFRW in an effort to unify and give a national voice to the many Republican women's organizations already in existence throughout the nation and to attract new women into Republican politics. Then known as the National Federation of Women's Republican Clubs of America, the NFRW was officially established in September 1938 at Chicago's Palmer House with 11 state Federations joining as charter members.
