‘American system of government working for the American people’
WASHINGTON – “Today we witnessed the American system of government once again working for the American people as the United States Senate confirmed President Donald Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the highest court in the land,” stated Carrie Almond, president of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW).
The Senate confirmed the nomination of Justice Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court today by a vote of 54-45.
“After more than a year of speculation we are gratified to know that an individual of Justice Gorsuch’s character, calibre and experience will fill this seat on the bench,” Almond added. “We also are pleased to see an end to opposition threats and partisan bickering on this issue as President Trump’s first nominee to the Supreme Court has now been approved.”
The NFRW understands the importance of a strong conservative filling this vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February 2016, and has supported the Senate confirmation of Gorsuch since his nomination on Jan. 31.
“At our spring board meeting in March, the NFRW unanimously adopted a resolution calling on the Senate to confirm Justice Gorsuch immediately,” Almond continued. “Throughout the confirmation process we have called upon our members to contact their senators to make their support known.”
Justice Gorsuch, of Boulder, Colo., has had a vast and distinguished legal career, clerking for Supreme Court Justices Byron White and Anthony Kennedy and running a successful private practice from 1995 to 2005. He joined the U.S. Department of Justice as principle deputy to the Associate Attorney General preceding his appointment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
“The 2016 election cycle was not just about the office of president,” Almond stressed. “Many voters were also stating their belief that the highest court in the land must be protected from extreme left control and destruction of the traditional values upon which our country was built.”
“President Trump is fulfilling his promise to the voters by appointing qualified conservative justices,” Almond added. “We will continue to support him and our elected legislators as they strive to Make America Great Again.”
