Isn't national defense one of the most important responsibilities of our government? Don't all government officials promise that “I, (their name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; . . . (etc.)"

The Constitution begins: " We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

What better way is there to begin to ensure domestic tranquility and provide for the common defense than building a wall to secure our borders? Without an orderly process of immigration and border crossings, we will be exposed to all manner of problems that will undoubtedly destroy our domestic tranquility and our general welfare - housing shortages, unemployment, lawlessness, over-stress of our medical institutions and the potential for rampantly spreading infectious diseases and illicit drugs, the disintegration of our own national culture, and the common defense - resulting in attacks on us on our own soil by those who wish to destroy us!

Nancy and Chuck - you took an oath to defend OUR constitution, OUR domestic tranquility and general welfare, and OUR common defense - not theirs! The "caravan" of belligerent people demanding entry and even taking it by force proves the wall is needed, right now! By refusing to adequately fund it, you prove you are more concerned for them than you are for the American people, the true citizens of this country! You have breached faith with the American people and put us in jeopardy; you have broken your oath of office. Either fulfill your duty to our country or resign your office!

The leading Democrats have all voted for the same thing in years past. The President needs to keep pointing that out as they keep resisting his every request for funding the wall.

The one thing that really bothers me about the government shut-downs is that there are no consequences for those employees who stay home and enjoy additional paid vacation days as their paychecks always come, but later. If these employees were impacted as well, congress might actually do something about the lingering issues that cause these situations.

Border Security should be number one right now. Regardless of how it is proposed, wall, fences, electronic means, etc., the Dems will oppose it. A government shutdown impacts a very small number of actual employees and, in my opinion, they should not be paid. Pay for congress should be withheld and not paid at all during a shutdown.

The over-all arching issue is: We should not even be at this point if our Republican '

Representatives/Senators were doing their job. Funding and fiscal responsibility

is your job......for heaven's sake just do it!! If they were taking care of the basics first, then negotiating with the Dems on a Border Wall would be a whole different scenario. Right now with our Natl. Debt , we can't afford a wall or anything else. Show me what's going to be cut to pay for the Wall!!!!!

If Donald Trump wasn’t president. We would not know how disfuntional our government is and how Americans have been devided over politics. Our sovereignty is so in Jeopardy. Our flag our constitution and our comman sense has been challenged to an extent of ridiculous. People are guilty without due process. People are not investigated because of political bias. I pray for our country and president as I have my entire life. It is sad that people put their bias’s before both. I love our country and pray our children will live the freedom and the opportunities that our nation has strived to achieve.

The "wall" is supposed to be for Homeland security. The shutdown is not paying air traffic controllers and TSA workers who secures our safety. Does this make sense?!
