No Child Left Behind

ADVOCACY PLAN - TOWN HALL MEETINGS

Get your local club or state federation involved in the education process by hosting a No Child Left Behind Town Hall Meeting!

Set a date for the event following the beginning of school.
Invite your Department of Education Regional Representative to participate.
Open your event to the general public and especially encourage teachers and education officials to join in.
The goal is to emphasize the positives of NCLB and to help dispel the myths.
Send out news releases. Post flyers in public areas and at local schools.
Get the word out by utilizing free media through Public Service Announcements (PSAs).
Keep the speaking portion brief to allow plenty of time for questions and answers.
 Remember that debate is good.
Make sure to have hand-outs available for those interested in learning more. The Department of Education has free publications that can be ordered in advance. (See Resources page for details.)

Sample Agenda:

1. Welcome
2. Brief Introduction of Speaker(s)
3. Overview of NCLB
4. Speaker(s) - Ask the speakers to detail the history and structure of NCLB, and to provide a synopsis on what NCLB means for your town/school district. You may want the speakers to debate the points of NCLB.
5. Q & A
6. Concluding Remarks
