SEVERNA PARK REPUBLICAN WOMEN
Maryland
During November, Severna Park Republican Women made and filled 50 Christmas stockings in preparation to send to the club's adopted platoon in Afghanistan. Eleven members cut and sewed 18 yards of red felt to form the traditional stocking. Appliqués of gingerbread men, snowmen, candy canes and wreaths were used as decorations. A small card with printed greetings of appreciation were placed in the center of the wreaths. The stockings then were filled with suggested items listed on the Red Cross web site. A personal Christmas card greeting written by a member was attached to each stocking.
Support for this project was overwhelming. Members and their friends generously gave their time and filled the stockings with non-perishable snacks, socks, underwear, games, puzzles, books, toiletries and many other items. The stockings were boxed and mailed early in December in time to be enjoyed during the holidays.
