Tresa M. Baker has been a resident of Indiana since shortly after her birth in Omaha, Neb., in 1956. She is a life-long resident of Marion, graduating from Marion High School in 1978. Tresa married her husband, Gary Baker, in 1991. The mother of three children and four step-children, Tresa adores the simple joys of her family and is determined to protect that quality of life.
In 2008, Tresa was elected overwhelmingly to her first official office as Grant County councilwoman-at-large. A long-time Republican, Tresa serves as president of Grant County RWC and has been an active precinct committeewoman since 1991. In 2009, she was elected as Indiana FRW's 1st vice president.
Tresa won the Grant County Republican Woman of the Year Award in 2003, the “Jack Murrell” Award in 2007 for outstanding leadership in the Republican Party, and the Voter Registration Registrar of the Year in 2000 for her years of service as the Grant County voter registrar.
Tresa also has been active in her community, volunteering with the Altrusa Club and the Grant County Economic Growth Council, and serving on the Energize (ECI) Board. She volunteered as the chairwoman of the “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans for Grant County,” raising more than $50,000 to honor and build a memorial on the courthouse lawn in remembrance of those who served our country.
In 2007, Tresa graduated from the Partners in Policy Making program with a specialty in Americans with Disabilities and was honored by Gov. Daniels with an appointment to the Governors Disability Council. Since 2003, she has been a special assistant to Congressman Dan Burton.
