The Michigan Federation is a charter state of the NFRW. Records indicate that Marion Martin, founder of the NFRW, used the Michigan Federation's organization pattern in forming the NFRW.
Michigan welcomes all Republican women's clubs and women
qualified to vote in the State of Michigan who wish to become
identified with Republican women's activities.
As stated in the Bylaws, RWFM's purposes are:
To promote an informed electorate through political education;
To increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through active political participation;
To foster loyalty to the Republican Party and support its ideals; and,
To support objectives and policies of the National Federation of Republican Women, the Republican National Committee, the Republican State Committee of Michigan, and to work for the election of the Republican Party's candidates.
From 1992 to 1997, the state federation distributed a quarterly newsletter named “The Party Line” to members. RWFM hosted NFRW Campaign Management Schools in 1997 and 2003. The first Tribute to Women was celebrated in 1983.
The Greenstone Club was instituted in 2003 by Mary Abel, RWFM
past president, as a fundraising tool. Money contributed to the fund
is used to enhance member knowledge of Republican issues and the
election process with speakers and programs at meetings and
conventions. Members are better educated and become more effective
leaders in their communities and at the grassroots level.
The RWFM Educational Memorial Trust Scholarship was created in 2005
to honor the memory of deceased members of the organization. The
non-renewable scholarship is awarded each year to a Republican
female senior high school student who plans to pursue a career in
education, political science or administration. Each scholarship
winner's name is inscribed on a plaque that is displayed at the
Secchia-Weiser Michigan Center.
In 2007, RWFM's new web site became a powerful communication tool
for members and supporters, and the Facebook page has been utilized
throughout the state, as well. RWFM has expanded its
educational and leadership opportunities to college-age women,
working women and women who want to work with groups of conservative
women in their own communities.
During the 85th anniversary in 2010, RWFM honored members who have
served the federation, the NFRW, their communities and the
Republican Party for many years.
