it would be interesting to see the results of a survey of prisoners to see what they thought about welfare programs such as cash grants to single parents, food stamps, etc. I would suggest that many of the prisoners want welfare programs. It's a mind set. And with this kind of mind set, prisoners are going to vote Democrat so they can get free __________ fill in the blank. I vote no. Felons can't be allowed to vote.

Maine is losing its way and needs help from the Federal GOP: "...a sophomore in Laura Fralichs’ class at Arthur R. Gould School in South Portland, took first place in this category for his essay titled The Importance of Prisoners Votes" Votes.https://www.centralmaine.com/2019/05/31/2019-maine-constitution-essay-and-poster-contest-winners-recognized/

I venture 95% of convicted felons were not wise enough to keep themselves out of prison; therefore, why would I expect them to make wise decisions when voting.

We already have a large general population that doesn't study-up on the issues to vote with intelligence, why would we want to add more voters with the same deficit? No, they shouldn't be allowed to vote! If you can't be an upstanding citizen enough to stay out of trouble, non-voting ability is the price you pay along with doing your time. Again, as with last week's issue, we're talking about personal responsibility and taking the consequences of your actions. Live by the rules or lose.

I agree with all the above comments. There should be ongoing penalty for committing crimes and taking away their right to vote is one that should never be abolished.

Felons should not be able to vote while in prison. Prison is where they lose many rights because of their crimes against society. If you’re not willing to follow the law, then you should not have a role in making the law for everyone else. If allowed to vote while in prison one can only begin to think of the negative consequences of this decision. Some prison populations are larger than the area's citizen population. I do think that once felons are released then they should have the right to vote after a period of time that shows some positive integration back into society.

If someone commits a crime, he/she must pay for it. The right to vote is only afforded to those who have done their time in jail and show remorse and good behavior in jail. These felons took someone's life or property and do not deserve to keep their rights just to please the liberal Dems. It's all politics now because they cannot win fairly......they must cheat to get more voters.

Felons are in prison because they do not obey our laws. Folks who do not obey our laws should not be able to vote.

The right to vote is afforded all law-abiding citizens. Conviction and incarceration of felons negates that right. Either knowingly or unknowingly, felons automatically relinquish that right and it sbould be a nationwide mandated law.

If a person is in jail for breaking the law in our country they should 1st repay their debt to society. After they are paroled and have finished their parole and are considered a responsible working member of society by their parole officer then and only then do I believe they should be allowed the right to vote!

I am sick and tired of the lawless given rights that the rest of us law abiding American Citizens have to work and labor just to get by. We work and die to pay the bills and are thankful to be Americans. These lawless people have given up rights to vote yet they have the right to receive a roof, three (3) or move meals a day, medical and dental, clothing, hair cuts, etc. at the tax payer expense. They do nothing to contribute to their care. They have lost their right to vote.

Criminals in prison should not be allowed to vote. This effort is all part of the Democrat playbook to win the 2020 election. Democrats tried to pass a law to lower the voting age to 16. They are in favor of flooding our country with dependent illegal immigrants who will soon vote Democrat. Right now illegal immigrants are voting in California. They don’t CARE at all that this is putting enormous stresses upon the healthcare, housing and education systems in our country. ALL they care about is gaining Democrat power and control. Democrats put party over country.

Along with Rights comes the responsibility to follow the Rule of Law. The consequence of not following the Rule of Law-you forfeit your Rights. Of course we all know that this is the ploy of the Democrats to garner votes. THEY ARE A CRIMINAL MINDSET SO WHY WOULD THEY MIND IF CRIMINALS VOTE AS LONG AS POWER IS DERIVED FROM THIS PROCESS. I believe your idea will be replicated and used as a basis for inventing many other ideas because it is both innovative and brilliant.
