I don't trust the government. Sure freedom of speech on a platform would really be nice but who can trust what the government does or say. NOBODY they've already proven themselves to be untrustworthy. Donald J Trump needs to be back in office to be our 47th president.

Impossible dream. No way should the government run a social media platform, they are too involved in our lives as it is.

Government interference in free speech is rampant -- how can we guarantee that a government-operated social media platform would be any different??

"Government free of censorship" is a contradiction in terms.

The LAST thing we need is government control!

As Ronald Reagan said, the 9 most dangerous words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to HELP! If we want to be assured that we lose our free speech rights, we would let the government control it. My vote is: NO WAY!

Government control of a media platform? Surely you jest! PLease publish the name of that Presidential Candidate so I immediately vote " NO" right now!! His or her stance even beats my "NO" vote on Donald Trump! K. L.

Government should never do anything not specifically outlined in the Constitution. There is a reason our founders advocated against the government interfering in media, much less RUNNING it. We’ve seen government corruption rise to unprecedented heights in the past few years. For God’s sake, keep them away from social media!

I don't want the government involved with social media at all!

They are already involved too much in our lives.

A government-run social media! What could go wrong? It would quickly descend into a leftist nightmare. The government does not "allow" free speech; it is our GOD-GIVEN right. Government should not run businesses - that's the definition of Communism.

The government has very specific duties as established by the US Constitution. Any kind of social media platform does not fall under those duties. Protection from censorship could be construed as part of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and recognized by the 1st Amendment, but beyond that it is a stretch. We cannot grow government for an unconstitutional purpose..

This is an extremely naive question. Trusting the government not to censor people is like asking the hungry lion not to you!

A government operated social media platform that would be free of censorship is not a good idea. Government should not be involved with social media. I disagree with the presidental candidate who proposed this idea.

I agree with the general consensus of the others' comments. Giving the federal government more over our lives is not only folly, bUt absolute stupidity.

I think one of the advantages of this is freedom of expression. A government-operated social media platform without censorship could potentially provide a space where individuals can freely express their opinions without fear of being censored or silenced.

Ultimately, whether or not someone supports this proposal will depend on their values, beliefs, and assessment of the potential benefits and drawbacks.

Fear that "the expression, if not curtailed, will do harm to individuals in its audience or to society as a whole" is the root motivation for censorship. Ideas that encourage antisocial behavior may be suppressed.
