Seems like the citizens of Chicago want safety, but their elected officials don't care. Vote those useless doorknobs out of office.

Of course he does. The District of Columbia is federal territory,. Even if it weren't, the Executive Branch of the government has the duty to enforce the law.

Whether President Trump has the authority to send the National Guard to Chicago depends on what he is sending them to do. He is legally allowed to send them in to protect ICE agents and activities.

I will not answer this poll question due to its vague wording and the limited options provided. Under the U.S. Constitution, the President does not have unilateral authority to deploy the National Guard to fight crime within a city. That power rests with state governors. However, I strongly believe the National Guard should be utilized in many cities across the country to help combat the significant rise in crime and to temporarily supplement the 120,000+ officer shortage nationwide until staffing levels are restored to a sustainable level. To do so lawfully at the federal level, the President would need to invoke the Insurrection Act with congressional engagement.

That said, deploying the Guard alone is not enough. The larger issue is the current “soft on crime” justice system. Enforcing laws requires both visible strength on the streets and accountability in the courts. Criminals must face real consequences, which means eliminating failed policies like no-cash bail and ensuring appropriate sentencing. President Trump demonstrated this approach by appointing Judge Jeanine Pirro as D.C. Attorney to restore accountability, emphasize sentencing, and reject no-cash bail before deploying additional resources such as the National Guard.

Moving forward, he should take the same approach across the nation—working with governors willing to reform their justice systems while also exposing Democrat-led states and cities that refuse to take necessary action. Law enforcement presence must be paired with a justice system that backs it up, or crime will continue to spiral unchecked.
