Club Collects 300 Books for Mom's House

Julie Hicks, Literacy Chair for the Wood County Republican Women's Club of Ohio, collected 300 children's books for Mom's House, Toledo.

We posted the word on our Facebook page, in our club newsletter, and with a local news outlet to drop books off at the Bard Coffee Shop in Perrysburg. Little did we know that we would have such a GREAT response from our club and neighbors. It all proves that we care about literacy for our children without any restrictions.

We will continue with this program, as Julie teaches dyslexic children to read using the "old" phonics method (sounds matter). Reading levels have dropped without reading teachers in schools. COVID also made reading achievements difficult for children. We are very happy we could help and plan to continue this program.
