Club Hosts Annual Garden Party
On May 3, Sweet Union Republican Women hosted its annual Garden Party. This is an outdoor even held on the Henry Hall Wilson House property in Monroe, North Carolina.
The Henry Hall Wilson House has historical significance. Henry Hall Wilson was a Duke University graduate who served in the army during World War II and later established a law practice in Monroe. The house is located in Union County and is the oldest existing public building in the area. It was originally a jail and later housed Monroe government offices until the construction of a new city hall in 1972.
Guest speakers were Rep. Mark Harris, who gave a Capitol Hill update, NC State Auditor Dave Boliek, who talked about the Board of Elections under his department, and Don Brown, author and former JAG officer and candidate for Senate who talked about how the courts and federal agencies are using their power to target Republicans.
This is the club’s major fundraiser for the year and raffle tickets were sold for items, such as $500 gift cards, cigars and whiskey, books and a gun safe.
Though it threatened to rain, the rain held off. More than 90 people enjoyed themselves, learned more about what is going on, and were able to meet and talk with like-minded people.
