Club Celebrates Maryland Day With Focus on Leadership

The Chevy Chase Women's Republican Club theme for the month of March is "Leadership." As the general club meetings are typically held on the fourth Wednesday of the month, the date coincided with “Maryland Day,” a state holiday commemorating the 1634 arrival of the first European settlers in Southern Maryland on the Ark and the Dove.

The meeting, featuring a brunch buffet, was held in the Eisenhower Room at the Rockville Hilton Hotel. The event was a wonderful celebration of Maryland, friendship, and the women who lead with purpose. The emphasis was all about leadership -- the kind built through hard work, resilience, and a deep love for our community.

Following a brief club meeting and announcements, NFRW Board member Patti Hidalgo Menders kicked off the event by reminding club members of the importance of courageous leadership in spite of obstacles.

We were honored to hear from our state party chairwoman, Nicole Harris (wife of Congressman Andy Harris), who shared a powerful story about her journey. It was a beautiful reminder that leadership isn’t defined by where you start, but by how you rise, serve, and inspire others along the way.

On March 3, Chevy Chase WRC members participated in the Maryland Federation’s annual Red Scarf Day at the State Capitol in Annapolis. Club members had the opportunity to witness the legislature in action and also meet with Republican members of the state House and Senate during a luncheon held at the Governor Calvert House.

About Chevy Chase WRC:

The Chevy Chase Women’s Republican Club is the premier club for Republican women in Montgomery County, Maryland. But we are more than just a political club. We are active members of the community and have supported many important local organizations including  Luke’s Wings, which provides emergency travel planning services and airplane tickets for the families and loved ones of wounded, ill, and injured service members, the USO Walter Reed Chapter, the Betty Ann Krahnke Center (a domestic violence center for women and their children), and the Hero Dogs, Inc., that trains and provides service dogs for America’s heroes. In cooperation with other local clubs and Republican committees, we actively participate in “Back the Blue,” which supports our local Montgomery County police officers by providing lunch and messages of support.

CCWRC is a dynamic and very politically active club. Our membership and board includes former White House and congressional staff, present and former Republican Central Committee members, and present and former business leaders. The club supports local and state candidates through volunteering at community events and also through phone calls and other GOTV efforts.

The club’s website is https://ccwrc.club and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CCWomensRepublicanClub/
