Club Hosts 'A Night to Celebrate Veterans'

Azalea City Republican Women hosted "A Night to Celebrate Veterans" on May 13, 2021 at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, Alabama.

The members of ACRW were encouraged to invite a Veteran family member, neighbor or friend and treat him or her to a delicious meal and wonderful evening honoring Veterans and their service to our country.

"Stars & Stripes" Table Sponsorships were provided by businesses and individuals, as well as separate tickets sold, to help us reach our goal of 215 attendees.

Mobile's Azalea Trail Maids added youth and beauty to the event.  Some of the old tunes and patriotic music was provided by the Solid Rock Jazz Band, a nice addition to the evening.  Attendees supported the Silent Auction Fundraiser which will help with ACRW's community projects in the upcoming months.

The program was excellent!  Encouraging speakers for the event included James Barber, Chief of Staff from the Mayor's Office and Sam Cochran, Sheriff of Mobile County.  Keynote Speaker was Twinkle Cavanaugh, President of the Alabama Public Service Commission.  The Solid Rock Jazz Band saluted Veterans with the playing of the Military Anthem Medley.

Veterans stood when "their song" was played.  Veterans were also recognized for commendations received during active duty.  Those recognized were Bronze & Silver Star Recipients; Purple Heart Recipients; Gold Star Family Members; Mobile's past Veterans of the Year and Quilt of Valor Recipients.

ACRW presented a gift to the oldest Veteran from each branch of the service.  Most of them were over age 85!

The evening was concluded by singing "God Bless America."
