Club Celebrates Sixth Anniversary, Awards Scholarships

Wood County Republican Women's Club of Ohio celebrated its sixth anniversary at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg. The original club began in 1935, so we have a great legacy to live up to. The club was rechartered in 2016.

The club also awarded two $1,000 scholarships to female high school graduates who will attend college this fall. We are blessed to have such talent and energy within our young women.

Our speaker for the evening was member Sally Culling, who hails from Nottingham, England. Sally was twice elected to local town council in Nottingham, worked for the Margaret Thatcher Governance group in Brussels and continued that work in Washington, D.C. She became a U.S. citizen, married, moved to Ohio, and now works for a Fortune 500 company in Toledo. She shared with us her upbringing in Nottingham, her parents' choice to send her to excellent schools when they could not afford it, and her desire to share her talents with other women.

We also reviewed our year of events, donating $2,500 to the veterans memorials, Gold Star Mothers, located on the grounds of the Wood County Court House. We are proud to have been a part of the beautiful renovations of these memorials.

We also held a large coffee with the candidates running for election in Ohio. What a great event to get to know our elected officials running for reelection and those first time candidates. Over 100 people were in attendance to enjoy conversations and listen to these candidates.

We look forward to growing our club and the continuation of being involved in our elections, policies, and communities.
