Army's 248th Birthday, June 14 - Celebrate the Oldest U.S. Service

The U.S. Army will celebrate its 248th birthday on June 14, the same day we celebrate Flag Day. Older than the United States of America, the U.S. Army started as an all-volunteer army when it was created in 1775.

June 12, 2023 will mark the 6th time we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the groundbreaking Women's Armed Services Integration Act legislation signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948.  This law allowed women to serve as regular members of the military.

D-Day, June 6: The Allied Invasion of France in WWII

Operation OVERLOAD was the code name for the long-awaited Allied invasion into France. American forces had already been fighting in Africa and Italy, as well as in the Pacific.  June 6, 1944, General Dwight D. Eisenhower was supreme commander of the operation that ultimately involved the coordinated efforts of 12 nations. Surprise was an essential element of the Allied invasion plan, as the Germans had 55 divisions in France.
