Why just public schools? How about private schools, religious schools and home schooled.? What’s the quid pro quo? Are they going to get more federal dollars? What about art and music? I believe in less regulation and that includes our public schools.

Bringing Back Real Fitness for American Kids—A Triumph for Health and Common Sense

President Trump’s decision to bring back the Presidential Fitness Test—a program cut by President Obama—is a fantastic step toward restoring real standards in our schools. For far too long, children’s physical wellbeing has taken a back seat to prioritizing sensitive feelings, resulting in skyrocketing child obesity rates. Obama's removal of this test replaced a real challenge with a watered-down alternative, and America’s kids have suffered the consequences.

The hallmark of the classic test is true recognition. Students who excel earn the Presidential Fitness Award—a badge of honor that celebrates achievement, discipline, and pride. It’s recognition grounded in merit, not participation or excuses. That’s the kind of motivation our children need: reward for effort, not consolation for simply showing up.

Let's be clear—no single policy will solve childhood obesity overnight. But Trump’s move, strengthened by RFK’s commitment to bold health reforms, marks the beginning of a real turnaround. Pairing rigorous standards with forward-thinking initiatives is how we take our children’s health back—and putting American kids on the path toward fitness and genuine achievement, not just comfort.

I remember taking this test and my kids looked forward to it every year. Not only does it put a focus on physical health, it encourages kids to be active and celebrates those that work hard and achieve. We must encourage and celebrate excellence of all kinds in our schools to inspire the next generation to live to their full potential. Not everyone excels at everything but the lefts approach to not celebrate anyone only encourages mediocrity. We need to go back to competition and awards in all aspects of education so youngsters understand there are many ways to succeed and develop a desire to find their own path to success.

They need to be socialized and learn teamwork. Get them off of the screens!
