Arizona Federation of Republican Women attended the Day at the Legislature at the Arizona State Capitol on March 20. AzFRW thanks the Honorable Jill Norgaard, member of Ahwatukee RW, for planning and organizing this special event. Eighty attendees and the ladies in red once again converged on the Senate side of the Capitol.
The morning session included a few words from TARS students, followed by Kimberly Yee, AZ State Treasurer. Amy Yentes, from AZ Free Enterprise, gave a legislative update. Emma Blair, Senate Policy Advisor, and two interns presented the “technical” side of how a bill goes from introduction through vote. This was especially useful, as we all went to the House floor following lunch and held a debate and vote on a mock bill.
Everyone enjoyed a very informative visit to our State Capitol. Our session on the floor was presided over by Rep. Matt Gress from District 4. Speaker of the House Steve Montenegro also took time to speak to the AzFRW group. Speaker Montenegro stated that Arizona is the “last bastion of hope.” Here’s another take away from Speaker Montenegro’s remarks:
Why is it better to have Republicans in leadership and control of government?
- To preserve the American Dream
- To promote public safety
- To protect individual rights and liberties
God gives us our rights; government can’t take them away!
