Club Concludes Declaration of Independence Roadshow at Iowa State Capitol
DES MOINES, Iowa — June 19, 2026
All Iowa Republican Women (AIRW) marked the nation’s 250th anniversary year with a Declaration of Independence Roadshow, bringing a message of patriotism, historical reflection, and civic engagement to communities across central Iowa. The traveling program visited county courthouses in Dallas, Guthrie, Adair, Madison, and Warren Counties, culminating in a final public reading at the Iowa State Capitol beside the Liberty Bell replica.
Club members were joined throughout the day by elected officials, county central committee members, community leaders, and local residents, many of whom participated in the readings and shared reflections on the significance of the Declaration of Independence.
A Program Rooted in History and Civic Purpose
At each stop, attendees received a brief historical overview of the Declaration’s creation, the courage of its 56 signers, and the document’s enduring role in defining American liberty. Presenters highlighted the personal sacrifices made by the signers—men who risked their lives, livelihoods, and families to stand for independence.
Following the historical remarks, participants joined together in a group reading of the Declaration of Independence, echoing the tradition of public readings that began in 1776.
A Call to Spark Patriotism Across Iowa
In addition to honoring the nation’s founding, the Roadshow carried a forward‑looking purpose: encouraging Iowans to bring this tradition into their own neighborhoods.
Attendees were invited to:
- Host their own Declaration of Independence reading with friends, family, neighbors, or community groups.
- Share photos on social media and on the All Iowa Republican Women Facebook page to inspire others to participate.
- Help build a statewide wave of patriotism during this historic anniversary year.
AIRW leaders emphasized that simple acts—like reading the Declaration aloud—can spark civic understanding and foster a renewed appreciation for America’s founding principles.
A Day of Community, Patriotism, and Shared Purpose
The Roadshow drew participation from individuals of all ages, including families with children who received flags and patriotic stickers at several stops. The final gathering at the State Capitol brought together the day’s travelers and new attendees for a closing reading that echoed across the Capitol grounds.
The All Iowa Republican Women expressed gratitude to the officials, volunteers, and community members who helped make the event possible and reaffirmed their commitment to the future of our country.
