Club Donates $32K to Candidates-GOP, Breaks Fundraising Record

RECORD BREAKING CONTRIBUTIONS TO GOP CANDIDATES FROM LOWER CAPE FEAR RWC by Patti Smithson

The distribution of the proceeds from the 9th Biennial Gala Auction were voted on and distributed at our August 4th, 2022, meeting.

A record breaking $31,950 was distributed to our New Hanover and Pender Counties candidates and the combined GOTV efforts.  This brings our grand total of contributions to $148,000.00!

Every Republican candidate in New Hanover and Pender Counties who has an opponent in the November 2022 General Election received a check from the LCF RWC.

Congressman David Rouzer (NC-7) and Congressman Ted Budd, our US Senate nominee, both received $1,000.  This is the maximum amount that a NC political organization can contribute to a federal campaign under campaign finance law.

Our statewide Judicial candidates run as a slate and raise money as a group under the auspices of the NC GOP.  This is a proven campaign strategy and the Lower Cape Fear RWC is proud to have contributed $2,000 to the 2022 NC Judicial Fund.  The 2020 election resulted in increasing our presence from one to three justices (including the Chief Justice) on the Supreme Court, thus putting us in the position of re-taking the majority of the NC Supreme Court in 2022.  We have a strong majority on the NC Court of Appeals:  Republicans hold ten of the fifteen seats, and all indications are we will at least maintain that hold, if not see an increase.

Long time LCFRWC members/associates Ted Davis, Michael Lee, and LeAnn Pierce each received a $5,600 contribution to their campaigns.  This is the maximum amount a political organization can contribute to a candidate and the first time we have ever been in a position to max out to our local candidates.  We are so proud to be able to support these outstanding public servants!

We have also contributed to the GOTV efforts in both Pender and New Hanover Counties via a direct contribution to both county parties.

The overwhelming success of our 9th Biennial Gala Auction is due to the combined efforts of Carolyn Justice, the 2021 Auction Chair, Sandy Best, club president, and Pam Higgins, our club treasurer plus all our members and sponsors and those who donated so generously!

Thank you to all who were a part of this successful event and, most of all, to all of our wonderful candidates who are willing to serve!
