Club Comes to the Rescue

Mitzi Kirmse became president of Huachuca Area Republican Women (HARW) in 1999 and served several terms. She remained active until she passed away in 2021. Her husband, George, a dedicated associate member, passed away last year.

One day I received a call from a gentleman named Kevin Kirmse. Yes, the same last name and I knew immediately he was George and Mitzi's son. He and his wife, who lived in Texas, were preparing for an estate sale and found boxes of HARW items among Mitzi's possessions. I met with Kevin and Denise and saw the desperation in their eyes. They knew no one in our town.

So HARW members and their spouses went to work to help the children of our long-time members get ready for their estate sale.  We spent weeks going through jewelry, linens, kitchen items, decorative pieces, lamps and furniture. We took pictures of the larger furniture pieces and posted them on local sales sites. We solicited everyone to ask to borrow tables for display purposes. Many of us took shifts actually working the four-day sale. It was hard work and long hours, fun, and very rewarding.

Denise said, "Our hearts are overwhelmed by the response of the women and husbands of the Huachuca Area Republican Women.  We will never forget their sense of loyalty and friendship to our parents. It is a true sisterhood, and not only an important political organization, but also a charitable one."
