Republican Nominee for U.S. Congress, California's 48th District

Michelle Steel came to America as a young adult with her mother and younger sisters in the hopes of finding a better way of life through the opportunities America offers. She became interested in public service as she watched her mother struggle to fight an unwarranted tax bill from the California State Board of Equalization. When her mother reluctantly yielded to the board’s demands, Michelle vowed she would help others who faced similar struggles; she would be their strong voice by running for public office.

Michelle successfully ran for a seat on the California State Board of Equalization and quickly went to work to make some much needed, common sense reforms. She opposed all new taxes, prevented any tax increases, and said all taxpayers are innocent until proven guilty when adjudicating tax appeals. Michelle led the fight to return nearly $400 million back to California taxpayers who were victims of a tax system that had failed Californians.

Currently, Michelle serves as the Chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors where she works tirelessly on behalf of all Orange County families fighting higher taxes, reducing traffic congestion in the community and ensuring California bays and coastlines are clean.

Michelle wants to take her strong voice to Washington, D.C., as a Member of Congress for California’s 48th congressional district. There, she will honor promises made and stand up for conservatives and conservative values. She has been selected to be part of the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Guns program. Young Gun candidates represent the most competitive congressional seats in the 2020 election cycle.

Michelle is a member of the Huntington Harbour Republican Women Federated. She and her husband have two daughters.
