Club Stays Busy Spreading Hope for Future With Spring, Summer Activities

As summer quickly flies by, I cannot help but look back at how much has been going on since the beginning of Spring.

Concho Valley Republican Women of Texas has stayed busy with a plethora of activities. It all started off with the Republican Primary Election in which several of our members ran for office. We had six members on the ballot and two who had to be in Republican Runoff Primary in May, which they both successfully won their races.

We were then asked to help plan, organize and hold the Precinct and County Conventions. We all pitched in and recruited, went over scripts, setup and prepared packets for all the counties and had very successful conventions.

Rodeo time rolled around, and we once again entered the San Angelo Rodeo Parade and won second place for the float entry. We had lots of fun spreading hope for the future, and then decided we would enter the Wall Independence Day Parade on July 4. We passed out flags, Constitutions, and candy to all who attended. Again, we had positive responses from the crowd.

We collected over 100 care packages and $600 to be sent to an orphanage in Ukraine with the help of a missionary group who has worked with the orphanage. They were in the process of moving the children to Poland and had nothing for them when they arrived.

Our Americanism Chair has attended two Naturalization Ceremonies and presented 90 newly sworn-in citizens with congratulatory medals from Concho Valley Republican Women. At the second ceremony, she even got to recite the Pledge of Allegiance with the new citizens. She said it was one of the most surreal experiences she has even had.

Another highlight of our Spring was when Congressman August Pfluger invited two club members to attend the National Republican Congressional Committee Dinner held in Dallas, Texas. We had the privilege of hearing from may impressive Members of Congress. To top off the evening, we heard former President Donald J. Trump speak. What an honor and privilege! We met many like-minded people and other Republican Women from Midland and Odessa. We had a great time!

About a dozen club members were elected as delegates for the State GOP Convention in Houston. We all learned about many interesting things and are preparing to share this information with our 135 members. We were fired up and encouraged about the mid-term elections.

Concho Valley Republican Women sponsored a table at the San Angelo Area Foundation annual fundraiser featuring Dr. Ben Carson as keynote speaker. It was a treat for all in attendance to hear Dr. Carson’s inspiring message.

I cannot forget to mention hosting our Back the Badge event in June to honor and salute our First Responders and Law Enforcement Personnel and all those who donated items. We fed them a meal, sent to-go packages to those who were on duty or could not stop by, and provided treats and goodie bags for all.

We helped with a campaign stop for Senator Dawn Buckingham as she was running for Texas Land Commission. Thank you to Senator Buckingham who reached out to let us know she and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick would be stopping by San Angelo Regional Airport. Concho Valley Republican Women members organized the event.

My goodness, what a full schedule we have had. Our last event, just held last week, was our annual Ice Cream Social. With temperatures well over 100 degrees for weeks, we had a great turn out. Who does not enjoy ice cream on a scorching summer day?

Be watching to see what we are planning for late Summer and early Fall.
