Flash flooding from heavy rainfall consumed the Eastern Kentucky counties of Breathitt, Floyd, Perry, Knott, Leslie, Pike and Magoffin on July 28. Lives have been lost, people are still trapped in homes and buildings, and thousands of residents are in shelters.

Two Kentucky Federation of Republican Women (KFRW) members from the Breathitt County GOP Ladies Republican Club lost their homes and personal belongings. One of our members in the same club is a pastor and lost her church. There may be more.

KFRW has been working on flood relief efforts for the Appalachian Region since Friday.

NFRW President Eileen Sobjack has reached out to see how the national organization can help, as they did with the tornado relief in Western Kentucky. Many others within the NFRW have called, emailed or texted the same.

As of today, with the help of our dedicated Treasurer Carol Rogers and our webmaster Rhonda Hunter Bartlett, people can now donate at https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=SULZM8U2XWPM6, or by using the QR posted with this article.

Share this link or QR code with your family and friends for the same purpose.

Additionally, I have appointed Lisa Moore as Chairwoman of this special Ad Hoc Committee for Flood Relief Efforts. Lisa is the current president of Lee County Republican Women’s Club and lives in the region. She is a city councilwoman in Beattyville and has over 10 years of experience with the American Red Cross.

Please keep our Federation sisters and fellow Kentuckians in your thoughts and prayers.

May God bless each of you and especially those who reside in the flood ravaged areas.

Pam Roberts, President
Kentucky Federation of Republican Women
