November is a good time to seek out military families in your community who need extra help to show your appreciation for the contributions and sacrifices they make for the nation.

This day honors all service members who have been deployed in service of our country. The day also acknowledges the sacrifices that military families make during deployment.

On the last Sunday of September, Gold Star Mothers and military families who lost their spouse, child, or parent -- specifically those who died during active duty -- will gather around the country to recognize and honor their fallen service members. The distinction of being a Gold Star Mother or family member is not something these individuals want but they bear that title with pride for their loved one's sacrifice.
